Why Joy

Hello there! I’m Dr. David Carolan – a pastor, advisor, researcher, and coach on a mission to help people discover joy. My research has been focused on exploring how joy catalyzes spiritual formation and discipleship. Drawing from my extensive background in pastoral care, I apply the Life/Maturity and Intimacy Counseling models to provide effective support and guidance. With nearly 30 years in executive leadership and coaching, I offer valuable insights into how love and joy are two priorities of God for Christian flourishing.
Over the years, I’ve witnessed firsthand how cultivating sustained joy not only enriches our lives, but also empowers us to become vessels of God’s love.
Now, you might ask: “How exactly do I get filled with joy and share it with others?” The truth is, you can’t just tell someone how to be joyful; you have to show them how to do it after you experience His love and joy.
But first, it’s important to understand where joy comes from.
Joy comes from the experience of God’s love. And when coaches, caregivers, and those in leadership positions embrace this revelation, they can supernaturally deliver joy to their clients.
The Apostle Paul states, “Rejoice always. Pray without ceasing. Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18).
By living in alignment with these principles, you can tap into a wealth of inner strength and wisdom from God to help those in your care. But, without leaning into God for joy, you risk missing what God is saying and could unintentionally bring biases into your caregiving, potentially leading to unethical practices.
When it comes to caregiving, coaching, leading a ministry, or everyday life, personal joy isn’t a luxury – it’s a necessity.
And that’s why I’m here – to guide individuals and groups on their journey to greater joy in both their personal and professional life.
